August 2010

I wasn't sure what kind of shots I'd get today...
... it started out a little rainy, then got sunny.
... it's a work day.
... I didn't have anywhere particularly "fun" to go.

But, it's the 12th, so I needed to gather 12 photos for the 12-of-12.  For more info, visit Chad Darnell's page... he's the guy who started this all & who posts the links to other 12-of-12ers.

Time to sweat with Debbie Siebers.
Since I'm in the basement (with the camera), I stop at the "Wall" and snap a shot of all the yummy goodness that I've been making since June.  What's your favorite jam?  Apricot, Cherry, Cherry-Almond, Nectarine, Blueberry, Blueberry-Nectarine, or Strawberry?
Walking out the front door, camera in hand, and who is visiting my Rose of Sharon?  The hummingbird!  (see her just to the right of the highest flower?)
UGH!  I hate road work.  It happens ALL SUMMER LONG in Buffalo, NY.  Maybe it's because we have 8-months of winter!??!
I couldn't help but think of Frankenstein when I saw this cement "face".  The rain even gave if the look of hair.

(nothing to see here)

Home again & I have a couple new flowers in bloom this month.

Got a little "artsy" with this shot.  My dad made me this bird house years ago... but it was never occupied.  Now it sits just outside my front door.

It was a warm & humid day today.   What better way to cool down that with some "light" reading.  I'm almost done with David Copperfield by Charles Dickens; page 814.
From where I'm sitting... the world looks like this... ahhhhhhh.
Then, I moved to another chair, to see things from another angle...
(this squirrel had to be almost 100-feet off the ground!)

View from the porch:
The Trumpet Vine has flowered (making my front yard Hummingbird Heaven) and the new grass is growing.  It wasn't a spectacular year for my flowering plants... but with all the shade we get, I shouldn't be surprised.  Maybe next year, I'll add more hostas to the gardens; they love shade.

Hope you're having a wonderful August.   See you next month!

Even if you didn't have anything fun planned, you sure came up with some nice pictures. I think it's amazing that you made all that jam/jelly/preserves. Yum. Your flower shots are beautiful, and I love your yard. How nice to be able to sit outside and read in such a pretty place. What is that pretty white flower? I've never seen anything like it. See you next month.

Wow I am very envious of your basement jam collection-cyber me some please! I made marmalade in February but haven't made any jam yet. Might make some chutney when we get back, that is if our house sitters haven't eaten all the tomatoes!

Great pics, I'm a big hummingbird fan too.

Great photos of a great day. My fav jam would be blueberry-nectarine (never tried it). You are quite a cook to make all those and very creative in the mixes, they look yummy!

Hi Jill,
thanks a lot for your visit and comment. I am really happy if I do get a response to my photos. I love jam and just for that I wouldn't mind visiting your basement for a tasting session. And the view on and from your porch makes it look as if you live right in the wilderness. I love your photos and the glimpse into your life. Thanks for sharing.

The white flower with the hummingbird is Rose of Sharon. The one of just flowers is a Hollyhock - I got pink & white this year. :)

Blueberry nectarine sounds DELICIOUS!

i've never been really keen on basements, but when i see "the wall", i can live with that. apricot or cherry for me!!!

you should see the state of montreal's road. every where you look, it's a mess!!
lovely flowers, especially the 2nd pic.

and your view of the world is certainly...relaxing!!! those are good moments.
good job!! even for a workday and i can so relate to your dilemma. those days are never easy to combine with the 12-of-12.
thanx 4 sharing!!

don't forget:
apricot or cherry!!!...

I love the pic of cement Frankenstein (though he looks kind of happy), but really like your jar/cans in the basement. Nice shot!

Hi Jill, sorry it has taken me a while to comment. Blueberry is my favourite, that is a lot of jam you certainly have been busy!

I love the concrete face, one of those "once you see it you can't stop seeing it" things.
See you next time :)

I love your photos. We live so far north we get very few varieties of flowers blooming. Some of the flowers we planted have not even bloomed yet and our weather is already changing. :(

Mmm jam. A colleague made me some blackberry-raspberry last year, and it was delicious! I'm intrigued by the idea of nectarine jam... mmmm!

Love seeing your flowers and garden, such greenery must be so calming and peaceful!
